On 3 and 4 May, Carns Romeu took part in the second edition of the Meat Business Forum, a
business event with the participation of producers and exporters of meat, Catalan meat products,
and also importers and distributors from third countries.
The forum aims to consolidate a stable platform of international business for the meat sector in
Catalonia. Ms Meritxell Serret the Minister of Agriculture, opened the welcoming event organised
by the Department of Agriculture, livestock, Fisheries and Food, supported by Prodeca and the
business associations of the meat sector: ANAFRIC, ASOPROVAC, ASSOCAT, FAC, FECIC,
FECOC I PORCAT.

On behalf of Carns Romeu, the event was attended by Mr. Pere Romeu, manager of the company
and the head of key Accounts and Exportation, Mr. Raúl Sánchez.
In its second edition, the Meat Business Forum has established itself as an international forum in
the Catalan meat sector. The Forum has enabled B2B meetings (Busines to Business)
summoning 31 production and export companies of meat and meat products in Catalonia and also
140 international operators from 44 non EU countries. They represent an impressive share of the
productive base, capable of supplying their products to other markets.
The meat industry is the main agri-food sector in Catalonia. It accounts for more than 32%
of turnover in the sector, 40% level of employment and more than 21% in terms of number
of companies. The meat sector is also a large exporter of meat. Today, 36% of the meat
produced is sold on markets outside the EU.
Concerning the evaluation of this professional meeting, most Catalan producers agree that, thanks
to B2B format, it opens up the opportunity to entry into hitherto inaccessible markets, where they
have been given an opportunity to show the quality of their products and the elaboration process,
as well as the ability to innovate and adapt to the special features of individual markets.
